Let’s go, Gracie Barra Thousand Oaks—together, we are stronger!
1. Structured Self Defense Program: The GB’s curriculum emphasizes practical self defense techniques, designed to give children confidence in their ability to protect themselves in multiple scenarios. The structured approach helps kids learn in a safe environment by teaching them age-appropriate techniques & fundamental Jiu Jitsu skills.
2. Anti-Bullying Focus: Gracie Barra’s anti-bullying program teaches kids how to handle confrontation without resorting to aggression. Children learn to defend themselves verbally and physically when necessary, while also developing awareness and the confidence to de-escalate situations. The values of respect, discipline, and the leadership instilled in the program empower kids to stand up for themselves and others.
3. Sports Jiu Jitsu Training: In addition to self defense, Gracie Barra offers a strong sports Jiu Jitsu curriculum, preparing kids for competition if they choose to participate (our Head Professor Gabriel Arges is a multiple time World Champion and has competed in the biggest stages of the sport). With clear progression through belts, kids develop athleticism, discipline, and perseverance. This part of the curriculum teaches the strategic and technical aspects of Jiu Jitsu that can be applied in competition, building resilience and teamwork.
4. Life Skills and Personal Development:
Beyond Jiu Jitsu techniques, the Gracie Barra Program teaches valuable life skills such as focus, goal-setting, responsibility, and respect for others. The supportive environment promotes social skills, leadership development, and fosters a sense of community and belonging.
Brazilian Jiu jitsu is a powerful tool in helping children build confidence and self-defense skills, which are key in preventing bullying.
By practicing jiu jitsu, kids learn how to protect themselves without having to resort to violence. The discipline teaches them to neutralize a threat calmly and effectively, often through non-aggressive techniques that rely on leverage rather than strength.
This gives children the ability to stand up for themselves without feeling the need to escalate a conflict, reinforcing the idea that self-control is often the best form of defense.
Here are the 3 main reasons why BJJ is so effective in training children to avoid being bullied or to stop a bullying interaction
Boosting Self Esteem: Training helps kids feel strong and capable, reducing the chances of being targeted.
Promotes Problem Solving: Jiu Jitsu teaches children to stay calm under pressure, thinking critically and finding solutions. Numerous times, confident conversations will avoid physical altercation.
Builds Confidence & Self Defense: Jiu Jitsu teaches kids to defend themselves without violence, using techniques, based on leverage and control, giving confidence to STAND UP to bullies.
At GBTO we teach our kids to be strong, resilient and bullyproof.
